How Do I Update Lowrance Lms 330c
- #1
Hi guys,

My two seasons' worth of feel with the Lowrance LMS 330C combo unit has not been overwhelmingly positive. I.e., it's great when information technology works, merely too often information technology does not.

At showtime, the boat dealer hadn't realized he had to hook upward the power for both the main unit and the GPS antenna, and then the electronics dealer had to come and fix it after I would only get the "GPS unit not responding" message.

At present, we have had problems many times that the depth sounder stops responding. Information technology simply locks up on some depth and only doesn't outset back upward. Information technology is non like when I am going too fast and the depth number just starts to blink on the last depth it had a gear up on. Turning the unit off and on again ordinarily fixes the problem.

Then, today, I again got the same "GPS unit not responding" message. Has happened a few times before. Tried turning off & on a few times to no avail. So unplugged unit completely, turned back on and it worked again.

Are these common problems to these units? Does it sound like it is time to get a new ane before the warranty expires?

Hi guys, and thank you for the responses.

I did talk to the retailer but with little assistance to be had.

The importer/agent on the other manus was very helpful. I've sent the whole unit off to them, expecting they'll either fix, replace or upgrade it.

Information technology turns out the retailer probably gave me the incorrect type transducer. Also, provided there's cipher else that is incorrect, both the chief unit of measurement and the gps unit volition probably need software upgrades.

They besides said that they hadn't heard of these specific problems before and that they wanted to send the unit off to headquarters in the United states and then that they could investigate this.

At least I was given the impression that they accept this seriously.

I'll keep you posted on how information technology goes. Thanks once more.

Lee - Thanks for the lead. Good to have should the procedure with the local importer not get every bit hoped for.

How most that; Norway, Iowa! I think I've seen your town on a TV documentary a few times, and it seems that some of your neighbours are better at keeping up the Scandinavian traditions than we are dorsum here.

Anyway, thank you again.

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
Update - I finally got a hold of someone at the importer. The unit has been checked past LEI in the US and they found nil wrong with it...

The transducer, withal, is probably of the wrong kind and the GPS antennae has since had a few software updates.

They offered to ship the unit of measurement back to me with the same GPS unit of measurement and a new transducer, or to upgrade to a LMS332 (same only with better screen) for approx. USD 480 (I think this may be their internet cost).

I am non very impressed by this. Are my expectations wrong, or are they just beingness cheap? Any views on how Lowrance would have handled this in the US?

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these issues common? *Update*
I accept had the same feel with Lowrance on a Global Map 2000. The unit was new in 1999. I bought the gunkhole in 2001 and constitute the GPS unreliable (like bug to yours). I sent the unit dorsum to them and they replaced the main screen and lath. I still had the intermittent problem. I told them I suspected the antenna. And sent the unit back to them forth with the antenna. They tested it once more and said it was fine. I was determined the antenna was likely bad. They said the antenna was no longer available but I might detect ane from dealer stock. They offered a new model at a "discount" price if I wanted. The discounted price was a few dollars less than what I could get it for on the cyberspace. I asked them to ship the unit dorsum. When it arrived, miraculously a brand new antenna was included with it. The GPS has worked flawlessly now for iii years. However, this Global Map had the separate SAM unit of measurement for sonar. The module went bad two years agone, and of grade Lowrance no longer makes the module. As I have the thru-hull transducer on a boat in a slip, I ended up buying a used Lowrance fishfinder which would work with the transducer. On the occasions I talked to their tech support, I was given the impression that if I got ii years of apply out of it, well, its old applied science at present. I would not be inclined to buy another Lowrance product.

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
Thanks for your responses so far. Here's how I see it:

They have sold me a unit that came with the wrong transducer and has had intermittent problems with both the sounder and the GPS. There have been expenses in both installing the wrong transducer, shipping, and now in pulling the wrong one off and putting a new 1 on.

Although they tin't discover annihilation incorrect with the unit, it is a fact that it has had intermittent problems. If they can't find the problem, they for certain haven't stock-still it.

I would accept expected them to send me, gratuitous of charge, a new up-to-date unit of measurement complete with the correct transducer and gps antennae. Ideally, I would accept expected them to compensate me for the expenses incurred too.

What do you think, would this exist reasonable?

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
Here's the all-time way to fix that problem. Equally soon equally you get your GPS/FF back from repair/diagnostics. put it on Ebay!! I'k non suprised you institute that they did'nt know about the problems you lot suffer with your unit. (loosing a fix on depth, inconsistant readings ) Many accept had the aforementioned story when it comes to tech. help and repair. This problem seems to be inherent to every Hawkeye/Lowrance FF I've ever seen in a boat. All may not experience this "blinking" when the unit looses a ready on the depth or seen the inconsistant displays but I myself accept. I've witnessed both on my unit and others likewise. Similar a previous poster said. Consider another brand. I certainly will when it comes time to replace my unit.

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems mutual? *Update*
Stevens,

I would insist on a new GPS antenna. I am certainly non an electronics expert, but I believe when the chief display says, "GPS non responding" and and so post-obit a power down and repower, it works, information technology is a circuit trouble with the antenna (not software).

When I asked Lowrance about how they tested for an intermittent problem, I was told they permit the unit run for over an hour. This apparently, is unlikely to find an intermittency. On the sonar, hopefully the new transducer will make the trouble tolerable.

I like you, would expect a skilful company to brand things right for their customer. Unfortunately, I doubt they'll give you the latest version. I think, they will give you a new antenna though.

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
Update: They concluded up sending me the same unit dorsum, with a new transducer and a new GPS antennae. They forgot to update the software so they'll be sending me a bit so I can do information technology myself (Edit: no updates were available). The antennae is of their latest type, called "Stealth", and is supposedly unencumbered by faults and then far.

Now I merely have to convince the electronics dealer to reinstall this for free...

I'll post dorsum here next summertime when I've tried it out on the water again.

Thanks for all your input, guys.

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
I have always held Lowrance in High regard simply I think now they are trying to produce new models and discontinue old ones faster than they tin resolve problems with last years model. I bought a 335cdf 18months ago(at present discontinued) which locks up occasionally but more than that information technology doesn't piece of work as the transmission says it should. Afterwards mailing Lowrance they say its a known software problem with Navionics gold charts, and they will produce a gear up sometime. As withal still nada although I run across the new models of this year had software fixes issued nigh as before long every bit they were on the shelves. I still think they are a skilful machine however as I bought a Furuno LS6000 which was expressionless out of the box and have still yet to have the unit returned after three years.

Just me whinging really.
Andy

Re: Lowrance LMS 330C - these problems common? *Update*
Latest update: We had the first trip out 2 days ago after winter finally ended. Tried the same LMS330C unit of measurement that in the meantime had been mill-checked and equipped with the proper GPS antennae and the right transducer.

The same problems reappeared within the first two hours of utilize.

I chosen the importer, who told me to bring it in to the local dealer the next mean solar day and they would solve the problem. And, yes, today the dealer had waiting for me a new LMS334CiGPS unit, and I only had to pay a nominal charge for the upgrade.

To their credit, they came to my rescue in the cease. I call back this will work out well.
